About the course:

Functional neurological disorder (FND) is very common, both in outpatient and acute settings, but health professionals often lack confidence in managing it.

This course consists of three modules. The focus is on practical aspects of FND management: how you can make a positive diagnosis of FND; how you should talk about the diagnosis of FND with patients and families; and what advice should you give on the management of FND.

By the end of the module you will:

  • Understand why we use the term functional neurological disorder (FND)
  • Develop a positive approach to diagnosis in FND
  • Be able to explain the diagnosis of FND to patients, dissociative seizures and functional motor disorders.

By the end of the module you will learn more about:

  • How to make a confident diagnosis of dissociative seizures or collapses
  • What to do when a patient has a dissociative seizure
  • How to explain the condition to patients
  • What the options are for treatment

By the end of the module you will learn more about:

  • The positive signs that can be used to diagnose functional motor disorders
  • How to explain the condition to patients
  • What the options are for treatment
