Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners are vital to help diagnose medical conditions and plan treatments. Although an MRI scan is a painless and safe procedure, hazards associated with these machines can lead to serious injury or even death if appropriate safety procedures are not followed.

This assessment enables staff to check their understanding of MRI safety hazards and how to avoid adverse incidents. It is aimed particularly at people seeking to be approved as ‘Authorised Supervisors’ or 'Authorised Workers'. Both these groups receive training so that they can take responsibility for their own safety within the MR environment; Authorised Supervisors can also take responsibility for the safety of other people.
